As we all know, the gas discharged from the exhaust pipe of a car has a high temperature and pressure, and if it is directly discharged in the air, it will also produce a huge noise. The exhaust noise of a car is the main component of driving noise.
All countries in the world have strict regulations on the limit value of noise of various vehicles, and exhaust muffler is such a device for reducing exhaust noise. When the exhaust gas enters through the muffler inlet, the muffler will achieve the muffling effect by shunting, obstructing and lengthening the airflow running distance. Therefore, cars will be installed with mufflers at the end of the exhaust pipe to reduce the exhaust noise of the engine on the one hand, and to make the high temperature exhaust gas discharged safely on the other.
There are many kinds of mufflers in the market, but people often don't know how to choose the right muffler for themselves. This article will help you understand how to choose a muffler that can meet your needs from the aspect of material that people are most concerned about.
There are five kinds of mufflers with common materials on the market.
1. Muffler made of SS 201: Stainless steel 201 contains four percent nickel, which has certain corrosion resistance and greater hardness, so the muffler made of SS 201 not only has a bright appearance, but also is durable and not easy to rust, and has a long service life.
2. Muffler made of SS 304: Stainless steel 304 contains eight percent nickel, which is more corrosion resistant and not easy to rust compared with SS 201, but the texture is also softer. From the surface, there is no specific difference between mufflers made of SS 201 and SS 304. These two kinds of mufflers often adopt the treatment of surface mirror polished or titanium plating to make the products look more attractive.
3. Muffler made of SS 409: This kind of muffler does not contain nickel and is relatively cheap, but its high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance are far inferior to SS 201 and SS 304, and the polishing cannot reach the brightness of SS 201 and SS 304. So muffler made of SS 409 usually requires the original version without surface treatment, but a layer of anti-rust oil is usually applied on the surface to prevent the product from rusting.
4. Aluminized muffler: Aluminized muffler is made of rolled aluminized steel plate. And aluminized steel plate is a pure aluminum or steel plate containing 5%-10% silicon plated on the surface of carbon steel by hot plating, electrophoresis or vacuum distillation method. Therefore, this material has good heat resistance, heat reflection and corrosion resistance, and the price is cheaper than that of stainless steel, and more thicknesses are available.
5. Muffler made of iron spray painted: This kind of muffler is generally used as resonator, usually there are red paint, black paint and silver paint to choose from. Only different paints can withstand different temperatures, among which silver paint is highly resistant to high temperature about 400 degrees, red paint 200-300 degrees and black paint 500-600 degrees.
In summary, the corrosion resistance of several materials can be sorted as follows: stainless steel 304 > stainless steel 201 > stainless steel 409 > aluminum plating. We can choose the suitable muffler according to our needs.
